I love the great information that you're providing to potential pet owners BEFORE they get a dog. Education is definitely important. My boyfriend rescued a dog from the woods of West Virginia (one that was left behind) and he's turned out to be great dog!!! He's sitting right here on the couch with m, head in lap! He's a very lucky dog and we are very lucky people to have found him. Keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing how far this campaign or something like it spreads about the U.S.

Mr. Sorvino, you are a gem! A few years back your book on asthma and your wonderful staff helped me tremendously and now you're helping the animals -- I couldn't be happier! I am an avid animal lover and all of my pets have come in right off the streets of New York City. I applaud your work and dedication and hope that your well-known face will give hope to millions of suffering animals everywhere. God Bless. If you ever open an office in NYC, please count me in as a volunteer for your organization!

IT MAKES ME SICK!!!! when I see the way people treat these animals. I own a rescue dog that came from fulton county, he is my best friend and guardian... he quickly took to me, but unfortunatly, due to his past he is afraid of many things. I am pleased to say that he is rehabilitating very well. His name is Bear and I think that he is an aussie/lab mix. I'm so sorry for what he had to go through, due to the stupidity of an ignorant human being. I love him so much, he deserves to have a loving and caring home. ALL animals deserve to. Thank-you sooo much to the fulton county animal protectors for making it possible for me to have the best friend that I have today...Your work is greatly appreciated, not only by me, but by the animals you help save!

I concur with everything said on this website. I want to elaborate just a tad: Don't Get A Dog if you just want a puppy. They grow up! Don't Get A Dog for someone else. If you want to get them a gift, let them pick out the animal since it will be their responsibility. It's sad to see "Holiday Puppies" come back at the first of the year. Don't Get A Dog if you're not going to microchip it. Tags and collars come off, but microchips are safe bets. The "my dog/cat never goes outside" response is ridiculous because that's even more reason to do it since they will be totally disoriented when outside alone on their first night. Don't Get A Dog if you can't train it to be food motivated. Hitting an animal to train should *NOT* be the first option. It only teaches the animal to be timid/aggressive. Positive reinforcement is always the humane way to go. Great website and hopefully people will learn something!

Congratulations!! What an amazing campaign! More people need to realize that when you get an animal, it should be for life, not just for the cute period. Dogs are a lot of work. They don't just come to you with the temperment and manners to want. You have to work to get these things, and work hard. This is an amazing message to pass on to anyone thinking of getting a dog. You wouldn't have a baby and give it away because it isn't exactly what you wanted, why would you do that to a dog? I love the idea of this campaign!! Kudos to all involved.

This is totally true. People should step back and take a look at what they are doing.

Today, a man called us because he wanted to get rid of his 2 small two year old terrier mixes because said they were too big (11 1bs each!). He said that he wanted a smaller puppy instead. I said to him DON'T GET ANOTHER DOG and I wrote down this website address. Thanks for providing this website so we can attempt to educate irresponsible people like this guy.

The Don't get a dog campaign is brilliant. Not only create awareness in those who are trying to get a dog but also make you think and evaluate yourself. I posted the campaign in my blog http://dogs-news.com/ Thank you for the good work!

Thank you for doing this. It is time for people to be shaken up and realize what some people are doing to their dogs. We will be using your posters here in BC Canada as well.. Keep up the good work. Dogs Do Deserve Better

Good work! This is a much-needed next step in letting people know that a pet is nothing short of a promise, and one that must be honored. I also agree with the above comment that it's just as true for cats.

This campaign is greatly needed. Thanks for starting it - we need education AND enforcment for proper care of pets.

The campaign is awesome. I believe it takes strong imagery and firm message for people to take notice. This campaign does just that.

I have always been a fan of Paul Sorvino's and now that I know how he feels about dogs, I am even a bigger fan! Kudo's to Paul for his helping out with the Don't Get a Dog campaign. I think the campaign is brilliant!

Great campaign! The "in your face" tactic is great. Please consider doing one for cats as well. Southern Hope, Fulton County animal control officers and pets everywhere need the help and awareness level this campaign brings.

HURRAH! What a horrible and wonderful campaign. So glad to see a group not tip toe around dog abuse and put it where people can see. Though I am in MO, I am going to add your link to my websites and send it to my trainer and rescue friends - perhaps we can get a similar campaign going here. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am also sending a donation - not much as I have a small rescue myself but I am so impressed.

Bravo!! We are behind you every step of the way and hoping we can do the same type of campaigning in our area - truer words have never been spoken--

Brilliant! This is so clear and straight to the point. This is a universal issue and needs to be shared throughout the USA; however, I notice that the site is Copyright 2007. I hope you decide to change this to a Creative Commons license (http://creativecommons.org/) so that fellow animal welfare volunteers can adapt it to our areas and use it to help more animals. Either way, thanks for your efforts!

This is a great campaign that needs to be national! How can I get it started in the New York city area?

How great a campaign, how true. I wish to start something in our county as I am a ACO.

I just wanted to say thank you for this great campaign. I have downloaded your posters and plan to hang them up in the Old Fourth Ward where I have rental property and where so many people that do have dogs should never have gotten dogs in the first place.

When my husband Stan and I saw the billboards in downtown Atlanta, we were a little taken aback. After reviewing the website all we have to say to Southern Hope is BRAVO! Keep up the good work!
